Rohde & Schwarz presents its new R&S TMU9compact UHF medium-power transmitter for the power range from 400 W to 600 W. The R&S TMU9compact is the most space-saving transmitter in its class, while offering uncompromising efficiency, reliability and signal quality. The new transmitter allows broadcast network operators to reduce operating costs drastically. It supports the DVB-T2, DVB-T, ISDB-TB and ATSC digital TV standards, making it compatible with networks around the globe.

Rohde & Schwarz has successfully demonstrated the generation and analysis of 5G signals based on the characteristics as specified in the Verizon open trial specifications. The R&S SMW200A vector signal generator and the R&S FSW signal and spectrum analyzer both provide outstanding test and measurement capabilities, resulting in an EVM performance of 1 % when applying these 5G signals.

The new R&S AVHE100 encoding and multiplexing solution from Rohde & Schwarz makes it possible to broadcast color-intensive HDR material in UHD as well as in HD format, for example over DVB-T2 networks, to provide viewers with a truly immersive TV experience. The R&S AVHE100 architecture allows headend operators to replace existing encoders or to build entirely new multiplex systems employing cutting-edge technology. With the R&S AVHE100, the company offers headend operators an extremely compact yet flexible solution for migrating to high-definition and ultra-high-definition TV formats, including HDR. All functions are implemented by software modules, allowing easy integration of enhancements to the relatively new HEVC standard.

The R&S THU9evo UHF transmitter from Rohde & Schwarz represents the next level of development for the company’s successful family of high-power transmitters. The new transmitter comes with further improvements in both energy efficiency and power density, allowing network operators to achieve even greater operating cost savings. The R&S THU9evo delivers maximum energy savings even during channel changes or when adjusting the output power. The intelligent R&S Efficiency Optimization feature automatically provides the most economical operation possible for every operating scenario.

Rohde & Schwarz has expanded its successful R&S VENICE ingest and playout platform to include the R&S VENICE Control application. The R&S VENICE Control ingest software for controlling complex multicamera recordings makes it possible to record up to 16 independent channels in all conventional production and broadcast formats. This is the highest number of channels per system available on the market. Single-channel and multichannel recordings are processed in a flexible client-server configuration.

The new R&S RTO-K44 option from Rohde & Schwarz offers powerful triggering and decoding functionality for debugging designs with MIPI M-PHY based protocols. Defined as a physical layer, M-PHY serves as the basis for a number of protocol standards that have been optimized for rapid data transmission in mobile devices. For example, M-PHY is used together with CSI-3 in cameras and with UFS in memory components for multimedia applications. With DigRF Rev.4, UniPort or LLI, the interface is used in chip-to-chip communications.

The new R&S ZNBT20 from Rohde & Schwarz is the first true multiport vector network analyzer in the microwave range with up to 16 integrated test ports. The unique hardware architecture from the R&S ZNBT8 has been extended to 20 GHz. This allows users to characterize multiple devices under test in parallel and thus increase throughput tremendously. The R&S ZNBT offers the high measurement performance of a two-port network analyzer at each of its test ports.

The contract, amounting to more than 10 million Omani rials (more than 22 million euros), was awarded in the third week of May. In late 2014, Oman TV, the public authority for radio and TV in the Sultanate of Oman, had released a tender for a nationwide DVB-T2 digital TV network with 69 sites to be set up on a turnkey basis. Rohde & Schwarz and several other leading vendors participated in the tender. After evaluation, the German company was selected as the prime contractor for the project. By winning the bid, Rohde & Schwarz is continuing its TV success story in the Middle East. Qatar, Bahrein, Sharjah and Jordan are already running or building DVB-T2 networks from the market leader in terrestrial TV transmission systems.

Rohde & Schwarz DVS GmbH has been integrated into Rohde & Schwarz GmbH & Co. KG at the end of the 2015/16 fiscal year (June 30). The electronics specialist thus underscores its commitment to unlock additional growth potential in both the broadcast and studio markets.

Rohde & Schwarz has validated six RF conformance test cases for LTE-capable high-power user equipment (HPUE), allowing the certification of such devices to start. The R&S TS8980 test system is the first and so far only test system that covers these tests for LTE band 14 public safety networks. With this accomplishment, Rohde & Schwarz is paving the way for LTE’s expansion into critical communication applications.
