Danaher Corporation (NYSE: DHR) announced that it has signed a definitive agreement with MDS Inc. (TSX: MDS; NYSE: MDZ) to acquire the Analytical Technologies division of MDS, which includes a 50% ownership position in Applied Biosystems/MDS Sciex joint venture ("AB SCIEX"), a mass spectrometry business, and a 100% ownership position in the former Molecular Devices Corporation, a bioresearch and analytical instrumentation company. In a separate, but related transaction, Danaher also announced that it has signed a definitive agreement with Life Technologies Corporation (Nasdaq: LIFE) to acquire the remaining 50% ownership position in AB SCIEX. After completion of both transactions, Danaher will own outright AB SCIEX and Molecular Devices.

Anritsu has introduced a comprehensive LTE base station measurement suite that allows field engineers and technicians to conduct tests necessary for the proper deployment, installation, and operation of LTE networks. The measurement suite is a set of optional measurement capabilities for Anritsu’s MS272xB Spectrum Master and MT8222A and MT8221B BTS Master handheld analyzers, enabling over-the-air scanning and measurement of RF signal parameters and modulation quality.

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) expanded its digital-storage oscilloscope (DSO) portfolio with six new models that comprise its next-generation 1000 Series. These new scopes offer bandwidths between 60 MHz and 200 MHz and deliver features normally found on more expensive scopes. The oscilloscopes are available with two or four channels, and each comes in a package that is just 5 inches deep and weighs less than 7 pounds.

Texas Instruments has the right idea for engineers who need self-sustaining electronics in remote locations: Make it easy to combine solar power, a low-power microcontroller, and a wireless link without design headaches. After all, getting any two of those components working together can become a challenge. Stir another subsystem into the mix and you further complicate the design. At least until now.
