This article discusses an application for your oscilloscope that can allow you to more efficiently use the memory while speeding up your debug time by targeting only the areas of interest in the signal. With segmented memory, the scope’s acquisition memory is divided into multiple smaller memory segments. This enables your scope to capture up to thousands of successive single-shot waveforms with a very fast re-arm time - without missing any important signal information.

Usually measurement methodology is associated with State System for Ensuring Uniform Measurement, which in very details describes what is measured and which methods and steps should be taken to get the exact results. But it’s quite wrong to suppose that such methodology has recently appeared. Generally speaking, it throws back to ancientry when people had their own ways to measure things. The present interesting and detailed article includes examples of measurement methodologies of the centuries B.C. up to nowadays.

Looking back we may notice that in 1990 the integration of analog and digital analysis methods changed the diagnosis technology of embedded systems. In 2000 the addition of serial protocols led to a new revolutionary breakthrough that means protocol-aware hardware test. The current decade has demonstrated the following achievement — the simplification of waveform generation and response measurement. Therefore it’s possible to suggest that physical integration of oscilloscopes and standard/arbitrary waveform generators can become the basis of new testing methodology. Find more details in the present article.

What put the beginning of the development of such exact sciences like mathematics, geometry, astronomy, chemistry etc.? And why are they so connected with metrology? All exact sciences are based on different concepts and suppositions that were put forward centuries ago and after that taken as so-called standards, the basis. Considering the definition of metrology term - it is a science about measurements compared to standards. May this be evidence of the connection between metrology and such sciences? The author of this article shares various facts which can prove such connection.

The Catastrophic Phenomenon of 1985-1986. The time when in different countries simultaneously mass failures of aviation, aerospace, nuclear and other complex equipment occurred. Catastrophes happened before, but just then at the minimum of solar activity were set tragic records of man-made disasters, and the reaction of the international community to them was proportional to the number of measuring instruments in cars, airplanes, spacecraft, and nuclear power plants. The article tells about the circumstances of these events and their background.

During the development of next-generation satellite and radar systems, the use of advanced signal-simulation can help shorten development time and reducing the cost of testing. For system developers, typical test scenarios include the emulation of transmissions between a ground station and airborne receiver or the simulation of low-observable radar signals mixed with ground clutter. In demanding scenarios such as these, one key to success is greater bandwidth in the arbitrary waveform generator (AWG).
